Meeting place:   The Hafenglöggli Restaurant in the Romanshorn SBS Hafen.   This is the southernmost of Romanshorn's three harbours.  To reach it by car follow the signs to the Friedrichshafen Ferry and turn into the car park on the right before reaching the ferry.  The restaurant is on the right.     If coming by train leave Romanshorn station on the lake side and follow the signs to the ferry.  Pass the ferry, turn right and  head towards the lake which will bring you to the SBS harbour.

Bring:  Swim suits (if anyone fancies a dip), sun lotion,  plus a jacket in case the wind really gets up – hopefully...

16.08.2020, 10.00 am – (club event)

As there have been few opportunities for us to get together since Corona took hold, we plan to combine our bike ride on August 16 with a restaurant lunch for all members (at own cost).

The bikers will meet at 10.00 a.m. outside Romanshorn Railway Station (by the Kiosk). We will then set of for a ride through beautiful Thurgau countryside passing orchards and fruit farms with some lovely views overlooking the Bodensee. We will see one of Switzerland's few remaining castles surrounded by a moat, Schloss Hagenwil. We will have a cofee break in Amriswil and after cycling along stretches of the Konzil-Radweg, which includes part of the Güttinger Wald, our route will take us down to Altnau.

We have reserved a table at the Krone am See Restaurant in Altnau, which is right alongside the harbour. Bikers and non-bikers are invited to meet there at 13.00 p.m. for lunch. After lunch the bikers will cycle back to Romanshorn along the Bodensee Radweg. Total cyling distance aprox 35 km, mainly along bike tracks and quiet side roads.

Excursion to Bern

26.09.2020, Bern – (club event)

Dear All,

Having moved from Wil to Bern I mentioned to the Club I would be happy to show you the sites of Bern in 2020.

Due to Covid-19 I'm not sure how many of you feel like jumping on a train and coming and visiting me and Bern however I would be delighted to:-

  • Meet you at the train station in Bern at 10.58am (give or take a minute).
  • Your train should depart Wil at 9.04am (from Platform 2) going to Zurich.  In Zurich you'll need to change platforms for the Bern train (details to follow at a later date).

Take you on a Swiss-o-finder orienteering adventure https://www.swiss-o-finder.ch/en/stadt-bern/ taking the "Park" tour around the Dählhölzli-Elefenau area.

Following our adventure looking for the 18 'posts' we will go to a restaurant in the area.

After lunch I'm quite happy to show you some of the main sites of Bern which include the Barengraben (Bear Pit), Munster (Bern Cathedral), Zytglogge (Clock tower), outside of the Bundeshaus (Parliament building) or alternatively direct you to the main street for shopping and the train home.

What to bring

  • Definitely buy a Day ticket (Tageskarte) from SBB so that you can use all available forms of public transport in Bern which include bus and/or tram; and
  • Comfortable walking shoes; and
  • Naturally a contagious smile!😉

Please email both Doris Zueger and myself if you can come as the sooner we know the numbers, the easier it is to book a restaurant for lunch!
